「懐かしさ」を巡って展開する作品たちです。
世界とは根源的に懐かしい存在である。
この認識を元に、真空を満たすエーテルの如き懐かしさを掬い取り、オブジェや切り抜きで構成したコラージュ的世界の中に再現する試みです。
私たちが世界と結ぶ関係の「根っこ」に触れることができればいいなと思います。

懐かしさについて
懐かしさはどこにでもある。
それは世界を包み込む。
前世紀初頭、物理学者が追い求めたエーテルのように、それは真空をも満たしているのだろう。
ここに集められた作品は、このような懐かしさを掬い取り、コラージュ的世界の中に、純粋な結晶体として再現する試みです。
懐かしさの遍在。
このことに気づいたのはまだ小学校に入る前のことだった。
当時、私はしばしば「小さな恍惚感」に襲われた。
それはぼんやりと世界を眺めているときなどに、突然やってくる、優しさ、幸福感、喜び、それにごく僅かの切なさの混合物だった。
知覚的・情緒的に特異なその状態は、今思うと「懐かしさ」という言葉がいちばんしっくり来る。
世界が見せた淡いパステルのような優しさは、幼い私にこの世界が基本的に「よき場所」であるという感覚を植えつけた。
それは、現在の一時的状態がどうであれ、究極的には不幸や抑圧などではなく、幸福や自由が世界を支配するという確信に成長した。
おかげで、その後様々な困難に直面したときもさほど悲観的にならずに済んだ。
そして、ここにご紹介する懐かしさを巡る作品たちは、その幻想的な装いにもかかわらず、この世界に対する賛歌であると作者は考えている。
若干「ひねり」が強すぎるかもしれないが。
それにしても世界がただそこに存在してるだけで懐かしいというのはどういうことだろう？
カギは「距離」にあると私は思う。
「懐かしさ」をどう定義しようとも、そこには「時間的な距離（隔たり）」 の概念が含まれるだろう。
懐かしさの向かう対象は過去に属し、それを感じている主体との間には時間的な距離があって、二者を隔てている。
自分は未来の世界から「今・ここ」に来た時間旅行者だと想像してみてほしい。
世界と自分との間にバーチャルな距離を作る訳だが、その瞬間世界が懐かしいものに姿を変えるはずだ。
生命体として「私」はいつの日かこの世界を去る日を迎える。
死は「私」を謂わばこの世界の「時間の枠の外」に連れ出し、世界と「私」の間に無限大の距離を作る。
そしてこれは必然なのだ。
このことを思うとき、世界と「私」の関係は懐かしさに彩られたものとならざるを得ない。
自分がこの世界を去り、絶対的な距離が世界との間に生じたとき、「私」は自分が世界の一部であったときのことを懐かしむことだろう。
世界が根源的に懐かしい存在だというのはここに由来するのではないか。
世界を懐かしく思うとき、「私」は死を疑似体験しているのだ。

ON NOSTALGIA
The works collected here are about 'natsukashisa'(nostalgia).
The world is essentially a nostalgic entity.
Nostalgia is omnipresent, even filling up vacuum like ether, much sought after by physicists in the early last century.
My attempt here is to capture and refine nostalgia into a pure crystal-like form in photography, digital collage, and box construction.
My conviction about the world per se being essentially nostalgic derived from my childhood experience, in which I was seized by occasional
entrancement.
It wrapped me up in a subtle mixture of gentleness and bliss with a trace of pathos.
This perceptually and emotionally peculiar state is best described by the word 'nostalgia'.
The experience gave me the feeling that this world is good in nature and regardless of its present state, it is ruled by good qualities like justice, freedom, happiness, etc.
It has been a source of courage in difficult moments in life.
So despite their dreamy appearance, the works here are meant to be a praise for this world (but with a twist).
But why is it that the world is nostalgic?
A proper definition of 'nostalgia' has to have reference to the notion of separation by distance in terms of time.
When the object A is nostalgic to you, it is something that belongs to your past.
So there is distance along the temporal axis between you and A, separating the two.
Just imagine and try to believe that you are actually a time traveler from the future many thousand years ahead.
I'm sure everything in sight will turn endearing and nostalgic.
This change is caused by virtual time distance between you and the world caused by your imagination.
We have to leave the world someday.
When that happens, there will be infinite distance between the two because death will, in a sense, remove us from time itself.
Then we will cherish our experience when we are part of the world and feel intense nostalgia toward the whole world.
Although we are always trying to forget it, our mortality is our primal concern, keeping us and the world virtually separated.
This is the origin of nostalgia flooding the world.
When we say the world is nostalgic, we are imagining what we will feel after we die.
